This is the most common "which one" question we get, and the brochures will not answer it honestly — both industries want your business. We install both, so we can tell you straight.
Choose the walk-in tub if…
You love baths and will actually take them — soaking eases arthritis and sore joints for many people. You have the patience for fill and drain times. You have room for the tub's footprint and the budget for the higher installed cost. The door-and-seat design genuinely solves the climb-over problem.
Choose the walk-in shower if…
You mostly shower already (most people do). You want the fastest daily routine and the lowest water bills. Someone uses a wheelchair or may soon — especially with a zero-threshold entry. You want the lowest installed cost and the quickest install. Caregivers strongly prefer showers: assisting a seated shower with a handheld head is far easier than managing a tub.
The factors people forget
Resale: in Florida 55+ communities, a walk-in shower is usually a plus; a tub's value depends on the buyer. Utilities: deep tubs use a lot of hot water — check your water heater's capacity. Future needs: the shower adapts better to wheelchairs; the tub suits those who will always transfer independently. Daily reality: be honest about how you bathe now — the best fixture is the one you will actually use.
Our take
Roughly two-thirds of our customers choose the shower, one-third the tub — and both groups are happy when the choice matched their real life. During your free safety visit, tell us how you bathe, and we will recommend the one that fits. If it is the cheaper option, we will say so.
